More information on the BE A FRIEND, NOT A BULLY  Anti-Bullying Awareness & Prevention Campaign for Kids and Teens:

On 6/5, MCPG sponsored Newark’s Mayor Cory Booker and the WNBA’s Anti-Bullying Student Day at the Prudential Center. Over 10,000 NY and NJ teachers and students ages 5 – 17 attended to hear Mayor Booker and WNBA stars of the New York Liberty team speak out against bullying and attend a WNBA game.

At the event, MCPG created a 40 foot display promoting the KAREN KLEIN BE A FRIEND, NOT A BULLY AWARENESS EDUCATIONAL PROGRAM in the main concourse of the arena.
Macmillan staff distributed:
  • 5000 “BE A FRIEND, NOT A BULLY.” BULLY posters and stickers

The Karen Klein Anti-Bullying Foundation also purchased 1500 copies of a variety of MCPG’s anti-bullying books from special sales to promote on their site and at the booth.

PRAISE:

« "Intelligently conceived and beautifully executed, this picture book is visually and verbally pared down to essentials, making it accessible to a wide age range. Yet for all its simplicity, this story opens up a number of complex issues for discussion." —Booklist, starred review

« “Seeger’s pages pop with action, and the lesson couldn’t be clearer.”—Publishers Weekly, starred review
"For a book containing only 18 words (22 if you count the duplicates), this title packs a punch, or perhaps a pat on the shoulder. Beginning with the stop-sign-red cover sporting an angry brown bull, author-illustrator Laura Vaccaro Seeger signals her intent to tackle an ugly subject, carefully calibrating it for the very youngest."--The Washington Post
-       “What’s lovely about ‘Bully’ is that the little bull is a sympathetic character throughout. Having shown us the reason for his anger, Seeger offers children a way to root for him.”
