THE WICKER KING by K. Ancrum
October 2017, 320 pp, Ages 15+
Jack once saved August's life…now can August save him?
When August learns that his best friend, Jack, shows signs of degenerative hallucinatory disorder, he is determined to help Jack cope. Jack's vivid hallucinations take the form of an elaborate fantasy kingdom layered over our own--a world ruled by the Wicker King. As Jack leads them on a quest to fulfill a dark prophecy in this alternate world, even August begins to question what is real or not.
August and Jack alienate everyone around them as they struggle with their sanity, free falling into a fantasy world that feels made for them. In the end, each one must choose his own truth.
Written in vivid micro-fiction with a stream-of-consciousness feel and multimedia elements, The Wicker King touches on themes of mental health and explores a codependent relationship fraught with tension, madness and love.
An early, not final PDF is available here for submission. We'll also be publishing simultaneously a companion e-novella set in the alternate world of THE WICKER THRONE as bonus material. And we'll have a second book coming from K Ancrum in Fall 2018 (another stand alone).
